Mr. Vinod Kumar is a Computer Science and Engineering graduate from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. Later he did his M.Tech in Artificial Intelligence developing natural language interface for relational databases. In 2012 he did MSc. in Geo-information science and Earth observation from ITC Netherlands with specialization in LiDAR technology. He is a recipient of Indira Priyadarshini Vriksha Mitra Award (2007) for conceptualizing and developing country's largest Herbal Garden (184 acre) at Chuharpur, Yamunanagar, Haryana. The garden was visited and appreciated by the late Sh. Abdul Kalam the then President of India in 2002. He has keen interest in precision forestry for effective forest management. His research interests include use of airborne LiDAR for extraction of forest inventory parameters, forest carbon mapping and 3D modelling of forests. His work in precision forestry has implications in stock carbon assessment in climate change modelling, valuation of eco-system services, forest fire modelling and in providing scientific input in silvicultural systems in forestry.
